Message from the Dean
The Rawls College of Business Administration is steadily moving ahead on all fronts. New faculty members are helping to build upon our quality curriculum and programs. Student satisfaction and performance continues to improve, supported by stronger advising in the Undergraduate Services Center and by growing career opportunities through our Career Management Center. Our list of employers is expanding mainly because of their satisfaction with the quality and preparedness of our students and the professional staff in the Career Management Center. Our new building initiative is moving forward with fundraising and facility planning in high gear. Number one on my priority list for the coming year is to complete the funding program for our new building. At this juncture the cost of the building is in the $65 million range. The University will provide $25 million in matching funds; we have raised to date against this match $21.5 million in cash and pledges. My aim is to have the match covered in the spring of 2007 and then to continue to surge forward with the remaining $15 million and complete the fundraising for the new building by December 2007. We are very satisfied with the success of our fundraising efforts to date. We are calling on our alumni, as well as corporations and foundations, to help us reach our goal. Please show your support by making a gift to the building campaign. I hope to break ground starting in the spring of 2008 with a target completion date in 2010. As I write this letter, we are still working on the building site. The proposed sites are all excellent and I can assure you our new building will be in the best location for our students, faculty, staff and employers The initiatives we have mentioned over the last several years: building a great career management center, expanding our student’s access to advisors, re-energizing our Health Organization Management program and Leadership Center, broadening our Energy Commerce program, installing a business minors program, and establishing a first class entrepreneurship endeavor are all validation that we are making a real difference for our students as well as our faculty. We have completed a rather lengthy process of having our accreditation with the AACSB reaffirmed for both the Rawls College and our accounting programs. In addition, the College’s graduate programs have been affirmed by the Graduate School and the University’s re-accreditation has been completed. With these milestones reached, I like to think we are “good to go” to build upon our current strengths and reach even higher standards with new initiatives. In closing, let me say that Texas Tech University and the Rawls College of Business are building momentum and reputation as one of the top tier universities in Texas and the southwest. Thank you for your continuing support.
